Packrafting is a discipline that combines hiking and sailing in ultralight inflatable boats(packrafts), allowing you to explore remote areas by land and water. Although in countries such as the United States, Norway or New Zealand it is already an established practice, in Spain it is still an emerging activity. And this is where Packrafting Spain comes into play.

Packrafting Spain is an initiative promoted by Luis Mora and Jules Galende, dedicated to promoting and facilitating the practice of packrafting in Spain. Their Instagram account @packraftingspain is an excellent source of visual inspiration and updates on their adventures and events related to packrafting in the country.

Thanks to their work, more and more people are discovering that you don't need to go abroad to experience a real expedition. Spain, with its wealth of water and landscapes, is a paradise to be discovered... at the stroke of a paddle.

Since that first Packrafting Spain meeting in 2022, things haven't stopped growing. What started as a gathering of a few packraft nuts has become an essential meeting point for those of us who want to explore rivers and remote landscapes with a raft on our backs. Every year we get together in some special corner of the Pyrenees to paddle together, learn from each other, share routes, test equipment and, above all, have a good time. These are days of adventure, talks, workshops and lots of laughter around the fire or by the river. From packrafting.cat we have been there from the beginning, rowing side by side and looking forward to continue being part of this community that keeps growing.

If there is a river that we feel at home when we talk about encounters, it is undoubtedly the Noguera Pallaresa. It is the Spanish mecca of whitewater packraft, a classic that never fails. It has it all: technical sections, quieter areas, brutal landscapes and a great atmosphere in the surrounding area. Every time we organise something there, we know it's going to be epic, one visit a year to the Washing Machine Pass never hurts. Paddling the Noguera is like coming home: we already know its curves, its tantrums and its magical corners... and even so, it always surprises us. That's why we choose it time and time again to get together, paddle hard and end up celebrating with a good barbecue on the banks of the river at the Noguera Pallaresa campsite.

And of course, the best laughs come when we start talking about the swims. Because yes, we've all swum out here at some point - some more elegantly than others, it must be said - and in every encounter there's no shortage of epic carnages: that I flew in a rapid, that the packraft went downstream, that the oar ended up in a bush... Real gems! These are the stories that bring us together, the ones that become legends year after year. In the end, packrafting is not just about nailing the perfect line, it's about laughing together when it all goes wrong... and coming out of the water with a smile on our faces and our spirits intact.

The Aoraki Packraft

The Aoraki Valkyrie is a packraft designed specifically for whitewater, for those looking for performance and control on technical rivers. Their design incorporates a pronounced rocker bow, which improves manoeuvrability and makes them easy to navigate in Class III and even IV rapids. They offer excellent stability and response, allowing precise turns and good handling in strong currents. Despite their robustness and responsiveness, they are light in weight, which makes them also suitable for trips that combine sailing and carrying. They are a very interesting option for those who already have experience in whitewater and are looking for a more technical and reactive packraft.
