One of the best places to do Packraft in January and/or winter in Europe is England.
I especially recommend the area of Wales and the River Dee:
https://blog.packrafting.cat/packrafting-in-wales-river-dee-langollen
Obviously, any Packraft area in the southern hemisphere, where in January it is winter, is a good candidate for a Packraft trip: New Zealand, Chile, Peru...
The Mijares river and other local rivers such as the Bergantes or"els Estrets Arnes", with a bit of luck and depending on rainfall, can be navigable.
The Packrafting Association of New Zealand (PRANZ) organizes its meeting during the month of January.
If you want to join our meetup group and who knows share some of these plans for January, join the WhatsApp group:

This is the ideal month to, apart from the areas mentioned in January, add other areas that depend more on accumulated rainfall. Galicia and Portugal are ideal destinations for the month of February-March.
In packrafting.cat Facebook you will find the GALICIA PACKRAFT TOUR event. If you want to come contact us.
Govin Kayak Gredos also organizes a week of kayaking in Galicia.
The Pucon river in Chile is an ideal place for a trip further afield and one of those unmissable trips of a lifetime.
Patagonian rivers such as the Futaleufu are very interesting whitewater volume rivers and you can also organize expeditions combining hiking and packrafting such as the Greater Patagonian trail.
Agh! And remember that February is the month in which the permits are raffled to be able to do the Grand Canyon of the Colorado by Packraft.
As we have already mentioned, the winter months and early spring are good months to go to Galicia or Portugal. In the packrafting.cat Facebook you will find the GALICIA PACKRAFT TOUR event. If you want to come contact us.
Govin Kayak Galicia are very knowledgeable about the area and great instructors and people. The trips and outings with them always leave you with very good memories. I recommend them 100x100.
The Galician River Fest is the meeting that usually starts the season of kayaking and packraft in the Pyrenees and organized by Aguas Bravas Gallego.
Beyond the rivers of Galicia, in the North of Spain, in La Rioja and in the Gredos mountains and near Madrid, there are rivers that can carry water in winter. I recommend you to consult Curro's Packraft section in the blog sobreescalada.
Leaving Spain, in Peru there are several interesting rivers such as the Apurimac River, a classic river with class IV rapids. And in India, the Ganges River is another option for the more intrepid and adventurous.
And this year the first edition of the Packraft Film Festival will be held on March 1, Instagram: @packraftfilmfest!
And finally comment on the SUP Pyrenees Festival, with dates still to be announced, but it's usually in March: @spotsuppirineos.
The Otona section of the Soca river is one of my best memories in Packraft! What a section! And the Cagarro del río Mijares has been for some time now from being Carlos' playground to a playground that he now has to share with other restless kids.
In April, the waters of the thousand and it gets livelier. In the Pyrenees we have the Ara River Race and the start of the rafting season in the three Pyrenean classics:
And around Easter is the ideal time to travel to Morocco.
During this month the River Dee Fest is also usually organized on the wonderful River Dee around Langollen, Wales.
April is a TOP month for events! One event that I have never been able to go to, but that looks very good, is the Open Canoe Festival on the Drome river a river that I have very good memories of and I want to write about when I have a moment.
In Albania in this month is usually organized the Valbona Kayak Festival, in the stunning Albanian Alps!
Last but not least, one of the longest running Packraft meetings, the Whitewater Packrafting Meetup in the French Alps.
I will soon write about our descent in Morocco of the Sources de l'Oum Er Ribia.
The month of Packraft festivals, which begins with one of the oldest Packraft meetings, the Whitewater Packrafting Meetup in the French Alps.
It continues with what is undoubtedly the best organized Packraft Festival so far, in an environment full of interesting rivers and with TOP activities, I'm talking about the Mekong Packraft Festival organized by the French packraft company Mekong.
One of the most important whitewater kayaking festivals is held in Valsesia Italy during this month, we are talking about the Valsesia River Fest.
Normally it was at the beginning of June, but this 2025 has been brought forward the celebration of the European packraft meetup to the end of May, beginning of June.
The Kayak Rioja club usually celebrates during this month the descent of the Najerilla river.
Soon I will write a post with all the rivers that we have done in the last two years that we have traveled to the Mekong Pakraft Festival. Here are some pictures.
If you are interested in coming to this festival contact us, every year we usually go a small group of Packrafters, come and join us!
The month of the Soca River in Slovenia:
During this month is usually organized the European Packraft meetup organized byPackraft Europe.
During this month there are also two of the trips organized by Rafting Ésera, Valsesia and Ecrins Kayak Tour.
On June 28 is the Tarn Water Race.
And also around this time is usually the "Piraguada" in Defense of l'Ebre organized by the Plataforma en Defensa de l'Ebre.
The Briançon Family Kayak (BFK) also organizes its meetup.
At the end of June is usually the Soca Outdoor Festival in Tolmin.
We still don't know the exact dates of the Packraft Nordic Roundup, but we will announce them when they are definitive. Last year it was Sweden's turn (Sweden, Norway and Finland take turns) and this year it's Norway's turn.

In July 2024 I was "lucky" to be part of only the first day of an expedition to the Tara River in Montenegro, a river that can be visited at other times of the year and that is undoubtedly one of the must-see in Europe:
But 2025 we'll be back! Stay tunned 📻 Follow us on social networks and sign up for the WhatsApp group if you dare to come with us!
At the beginning of the month in the Catalan mecca of kayaking, rafting, packrafting... in the Noguera Pallaresa river the Noguera Pallaresa river rally takes place.
In Norway the Sjoa River Fest is held, another of the meccas of whitewater in Europe.
We also have a unique opportunity to go down the Ter river: the descent of the Ter organized by the Salt-Ter club.
We also have the Durance River Festival, at the campsite near the rapid of the Rabioux a very interesting meeting! The company Hike2river, the same company that collaborates in the Mekong Packraft Festival, organizes within the Durance river festival the Packraft pack2race.
It is noted that we are on vacation because it starts the season of popular descents of rivers in Spain:
"At last but not least" the famous descent of the Sella!
The photo taken by Jules Galende of Rowild Packraft deserved a full page in the calendar! The now unfortunately too famous stream is the access point to the classic stretch of the Mijares River.
I have not been able to go the last two years, but I have a special memory of the Rassemblement de la Fontaulière organized at the end of September every year by the Canoe Kayak Aubenas club. Here you can see the Wikiloc route in packraft of this meeting, starting at the end of the Fontaulière river and finishing in a section of the upper Ardeche.
Last year the last days of August and the first day of September was the Scottish Packraft Meet.
After the summer madness, in September we usually take advantage of the good weather to do the classic section of Montanejos in the river Mijares or other sections.
During this month is also usually organized the popular Descenso do Sil, the international descent of the Narcea.
The Packrafts brand Current Raft organizes the DACH whitewater meetup.
The Oetz Trophy Extrem Kayak Festival event allows us to see some of the best whitewater kayakers in the world.
Some of the routes we have done during the month of October:
In October usually ends the rafting season in the Noguera Pallaresa and we usually organize a meeting in the Noguera Pallaresa campsite in Sort.
In Ireland the Cranafest is organized, in 2024 it was held on 19 and 20 October 2024 in Buncrana in the north of Ireland. The river that takes place is the river Crana, a classic river of class III (IV).
At the end of October, beginning of November, the Tyne Tour is held on the Tyne River.
It is also often still possible to do packraft descents on the Ésera river.
And we always have the backyard of our home, the Mijares River, which usually has the Montanejos rafting area active until November and the rest of the river sections depend on the water flow.
Some of the rivers that we have done at this time are
Also take a look at the month of December, because the recommendations are usually valid for both months.
One of the most popular events related to the world of paddling is the International Marathon of the Gorgas del Ardeche.
Sometime in the visa I hope to attend a Kayak festival across the pond, in Chile, in the Pucon river the main candidate for festival would be the Puesco Fest.
In this month there is also the international extreme kayaking championship of Ason and Gandara.
At the beginning of November is usually closed the rafting/kayaking season in the Mijares river, especially the section of Montanejos, but depending on the rains you can do other sections. The reference information of the Mijares river can be found in Carlos Izquierdo's blog, la vida es silbar.
A wildcard area that usually has water all year round is the French Pyrenees area, such as the rivers (Nestes and Gaves):
In England and Scotland, winter is the ideal time of the year, I recommend especially the area of Wales and the river Dee and its surroundings.
In Langollen there is a kayak club, the Langollen Canoe Club, they usually make a meeting every Monday at sunset and the truth is that they welcomed me very well, I recommend you to contact them through the Facebook group.
The rivers of the south of France that in summer carry very little water, but are very visited and valued for Kayak routes, in winter usually have volumes of water that make them interesting as for example:
Or rivers like the Herault and the Ardeche usually offer Kayak-Packraft opportunities during this month, in environments that are usually crowded in summer and crowded in spring and autumn. However, we have been able to go down the Ardeche River in packraft and in complete solitude during the December bridge. In addition, at this time of the year, these rivers usually have better water volumes, making them more entertaining at the whitewater level.
